One Natural Colour aftercare: first 48-hour care that keeps your tan even
By Eco Green Beauty | July 15, 2026
We hear it all the time, “Did great with my spray tan!!” and we want you saying the same thing. The single most important One Natural Colour aftercare rule is simple: wait at least 6 to 8 hours before your first rinse, and give it 8 to 12 hours if you want deeper development. In Darien, that one choice usually decides if your glow stays smooth or starts fading early.

Our One Natural Colour Organic Airbrush Tan is $45 and it’s meant to look like a believable, sun-kissed glow, not a "spray tan." It’s a medium-coverage, fast-absorbing formula that’s free of toxins and silicones, and it’s powered by DHA derived from apple sugar. We’re right here on the Plainfield Road commercial corridor in southwestern Darien near 75th Street, so it’s easy to swing by, get sprayed, and keep your aftercare simple.
The first 24 to 48 hours: shower timing, sweat, and the pool question
This is the window that makes or breaks an organic airbrush tan. In our studio, we’re attentive about your result. We’ll ask your preference for tan darkness and we’re thorough with coverage, because a good application deserves good aftercare.
Your 48-hour rules: Wait 6 to 8 hours to rinse (8 to 12 for deeper color). Skip heavy sweating, swimming, hot tubs, and long baths for the first 24 to 48 hours so the DHA can fully set and wear evenly.
Your first rinse should be quick and lukewarm
When it’s time, rinse in lukewarm water. Keep it simple. A gentle, sulfate-free cleanser is your friend, and you don’t need a loofah or scrubby mitt. After you rinse, pat dry. Rubbing with a towel is one of the fastest ways to start uneven fade on elbows, knees, ankles, and wrists.
Can you work out, do yoga, or run errands in July heat?
In Darien’s summer humidity, sweat is the sneaky problem. If you have to move around, keep it light and try to stay cool for the first day. A hot yoga class or a hard workout in the first 24 hours tends to create faster fade where you sweat the most. Pool season is the other big one. Chlorine and long soaks usually pull color early, so we recommend holding off on swimming for 24 to 48 hours when you can.
Days 3 to 7: keep the “vacation glow” look, not the patchy fade
A lot of people come to us because they want a tan that looks natural and fades evenly. One client put it perfectly: everyone thought they’d “just gotten back from vacation, ” and that’s the goal. The way you treat your skin the first week is what keeps that believable look.
- Moisturize every day. Dry skin sheds faster, and that shows up as uneven wear.
- Skip exfoliation for 5 to 7 days. No scrubs, no exfoliating acids, no rough mitts. Save that for when you’re ready to remove the rest of the tan.
- Watch the “hot water habit.” Long hot showers and baths soften skin and speed up fading. Keep showers shorter and lukewarm.
- Be gentle with friction. Tight leggings, sweaty sports bras, and rough towels tend to fade color faster in those high-rub spots.
And if you’re planning an event, a wedding, or a weekend trip, we usually suggest booking your spray 48 to 72 hours ahead. That timing helps clients coming in from Downers Grove, Woodridge, Bolingbrook, Lisle, and Westmont, because it leaves breathing room for life. It also helps the tan settle before you’re out in heat, sunscreen, and pool water.
The product shortlist: fragrance-free lotion, gentle cleanser, and no oils (yet)
You don’t need a complicated shelf to keep your One Natural Colour tan looking good. What matters is what doesn’t mess with it.
Moisturizer
Go lightweight, fragrance-free, and apply daily. If you’re dry in winter, bump it up to morning and night. Darien’s colder months are when we see the most “my tan faded fast” complaints, and it’s usually just dry skin.
Cleanser
Pick a gentle, sulfate-free body wash. Avoid harsh, stripping cleansers that leave you feeling squeaky. That dry-tight feeling usually means your tan will shed sooner.
Oil-based products
Hold off on oils and oil-heavy body butters until you actually want the tan to fade. Oils tend to break down DHA faster and can make the fade look uneven.
If you’re sensitive to scents, you’ll probably appreciate what many clients mention about our organic tan: it doesn’t have that strong post-tan smell people dread.
Patchy fade, missed spots, or “did I mess it up?”: when to reach out
First, don’t panic. A little dryness on elbows, knees, hands, and ankles can read as patchiness, and it often improves once you moisturize consistently and stop scrubbing. If you notice obvious streaking after your first rinse, it usually comes down to water, sweat, or friction too soon.
“Best spray tan I’ve ever had! The organic formula looked so natural, blended perfectly, and faded evenly.”
one of our regulars
We’ve been in Darien for 11 years, and we’re big on making sure you feel comfortable and taken care of in our clean, friendly studio. If something looks off, reach out to us with a quick note about what happened and when you rinsed. We’ll talk you through the next best step, including how to even things out or when it’s better to let it fade and reschedule.

Quick rebook tip: If you’ve got a big summer weekend coming up, plan your appointment 48 to 72 hours ahead so the tan has time to set before humidity, sweat, and pool time.
